nothing important was lost in the data drive that failed thank fuck. maybe a week or so and thing sshould be back to normal. the booru should be back tonight.

the most affected service is uh, unfortunately the discord bot

a lot of their data was lost and will need to be recovered from earlier prototypes. so old bugs might come back, features might disappear, i'm unsure how far back the old bot version will be. I'm considering just restarting from scratch with the bots when I have time after getting the dataset site working, since their image recognition system needs to be reworked to use the new system anyway, their chat system needs to be reworked for the local API, and their memory system was already having issues, I might take this as an opportunity to take what I learned from that version and redo them from scratch a bit better. no booru data was lost afaik and the booru is back, the site still seems to work.

thats good at least, I was eyeballing some drives that were building on the reallocated sector counts a month or so ago then overhauled he whole server when I replaced the drives with a couple 10TBs with redundancy

need a good pcie card for nvme drives tho so far best ve seen was one that mounts a single nvme but would like more density

I admittedly should've moved this to a RAID-5 ages ago, this was the oldest server that had the worst drive security and it's the first drive fail in almost two years of course both happen on this server. first the cache drive, then the data drive that I mistook for a cache drive because of how it was bugging and because I'm kinda dumb sometimes

I'm just glad it wasn't worse

I use unraid for the hypervisor on all my servers, but it only manages the drives in my big NAS. the others all have hardware RAID cards that manage the RAIDs. I know that's not exactly best practise, but tbh they've been more stable than the one I set up properly

I wish I had a UPS to cover my rack but it'd be a massive investment. I'm running like, 3kW~ in the rack at max load, (split between a couple circuits to actually manage it, lol) and a UPS that can handle that is like. a lot last I checked

at least it was a lot compared to my budget

lol yea, you can find refurbed ones for around $1400

one main 3kv unit plus an expansion battery

main issue is if you dont have one of the right high amp twistlocks available / service

though there are 120v ones that run on 30A

yeah that's a few months of figuring to work that in. took me like 5-6 months of slowly buying parts to get my $700-$800 3x M40 server

since I have two circuits, I'd prolly want two 1600W instead of just 1 3kw

that seems better in my mind at least

like uh, one set of surge protectors are plugged into the wall in my room. and when I ran out of power on that one, I ran a decent extension cord from the living room which no one uses to use all of that power

as ideally you'd just have one beefy cable, but I suppose if you wanted the redundancy you could split it incase one unit fails and have the 1 of 2 PSUs connected so servers would stay on

though if you can access your breaker panel, check the kitchen circuits, as 'usually' because of the draw of kitchen appliances, they will put in a 20A breaker instead of a 15A
